Florida SBDC at IRSC Hosts Successful Business Exchange Luncheon

OKEECHOBEE, FL - April 22, 2024 - Last week, the Florida Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Indian River State College (IRSC) hosted a vibrant and engaging Business Exchange Luncheon, bringing together local entrepreneurs, business owners, and community leaders for an afternoon of networking and knowledge-sharing.

The event, held at Indian River State College Dixon-Hendry Campus, saw an impressive turnout, with attendees from various industries eager to connect and learn. Chamber Executive Director Paulette Wise kicked off the luncheon by introducing the 17 new members who recently joined the Chamber, providing them with an opportunity to introduce themselves and extending a warm welcome to first-time guests.

The gathering commenced with a moment of innovation and unity as Pastor John Garner of More 2 Life Ministries led the attendees in the Pledge, setting a positive tone for the rest of the event.

The highlight of the luncheon was the feature presentation delivered by Ms. Katherine Culhane, Associate Director of SBDC. Ms. Culhane provided a comprehensive statistical overview of the business climate in Okeechobee County, offering insightful comparisons with neighboring counties served by SBDC. She addressed common pain points faced by businesses across Florida, allowing attendees to assess their own challenges and gain valuable insights.

Throughout her presentation, Ms. Culhane outlined various programs and initiatives developed or adopted by SBDC to assist small businesses in overcoming these challenges. Emphasizing SBDC's commitment to supporting Florida's small business community, she highlighted the organization's extensive network of sites across the state, with a focus on 4-5 counties per site. The Florida SBDC at IRSC, associated with the IRSC campuses, boasts an extensive staff with diverse knowledge and backgrounds, dedicated to empowering local entrepreneurs and fostering economic growth.

"We are thrilled with the success of our recent Business Exchange Luncheon," said Paulette Wise, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce of Okeechobee County. "Events like these provide invaluable opportunities for collaboration and learning, and we look forward to continuing to provid our small business community these opportunties through our programs and services."
